The Hideaway Farm

The Hideaway is more than a place to simply unwind or celebrate a special occasion. This private five-acre beachfront estate is also home to a robust vegetable farm and fruit orchard. When you stay at The Hideaway, you’re not just pampered from check-in to check-out. You’re also invited to immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds you, tour the farm, and taste the fruits of our labor.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our two-acre farm is managed using organic and regenerative farming practices. Instead of relying on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, we opt for natural alternatives like compost and neem oil. You may notice lemongrass is planted all over the property. That’s because lemongrass deters pests, including those nagging mosquitos making your stay a lot more pleasant!

We believe in not only minimizing our environmental impact but also leaving it better than we found it. This means working in harmony with nature, increasing biodiversity, and improving soil conditions. Our farm resembles more of a garden with many crop varieties sharing the same space, rather than being planted in rows individually. At the back of the farm, you’ll find a retention pond where runoff from the hillsides is collected and filtered before it flows into the ocean thus reducing pollution.

Meet Our Green Thumbs

Cecil is the head farmer at The Hideaway. Originally from Dominica, he has a deep understanding of native Caribbean flora and farming practices. He puts so much care into nurturing the plants that it’s sometimes hard for him to harvest the fruits of his labor!

Rick is the head landscaper and was born and raised in St. Thomas. The lush vegetation, stunning orchids, and other flowering plants that surround you at The Hideaway are proof of his expertise and know-how.

Last but not least, there are our diligent groundskeepers — Karim, Mahleem, and William. These guys do it all and are friendly as can be. Don’t be shy and say hello when you see them around!

What We Grow

Many crops are available year-round, thanks to our abundant rainfall. Sugarcane, coconut, and banana are continuously harvested while others, like star fruit and avocado, are seasonal. In the winter, we harvest sorrel — an edible flower that is wildly popular in the Caribbean. Right now, we’re harvesting tomatoes, papaya, eggplant, and green onions. In the summertime, we’re expecting passionfruit, mango, guava, and pineapple!

Experience The Farm— Four Ways to Enjoy the Farm During Your Stay

Whether you just want to appreciate its natural beauty or indulge in a farm-to-table dinner, there are multiple ways to experience The Hideaway Farm.

  1. Quench Your Thirst

Our farm-fresh coconuts are not only delicious but full of natural electrolytes to keep you hydrated. You can enjoy our fresh coconut water when you stay at The Hideaway or dine at The Shack next door.

  2. Eat Farm-to-Table

Start your day with bananas, passion fruit, pineapple, and more tropical fruit straight from our farm! It’s included in our daily continental breakfast when you book the Full or Partial Estate. If you want to taste even more from the farm, we can arrange a private farm-to-table dining experience prepared by Chef Risa.

  3. Tour the Farm

Schedule a guided tour with Cecil, our head farmer. He’ll tell you all about the plants and produce grown here. As you explore the farm, don’t be surprised if he offers you a taste of something special.

  4. Get Your Hands Dirty

Looking to do something a little different during your stay? We offer a variety of agritourism activities, like harvesting and pressing fresh sugarcane! Agritourism is a great way to learn about our local agriculture, traditions, and heritage. We also host community events at the farm, from informative presentations to yoga classes.
